Some manufactured raw chicken is being recalled over salmonella fears following reports of the illness in eight different states.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Monday more than 59,000 pounds of raw chicken are being recalled by Serenade Foods due to contamination concerns.

The five different products with contamination concerns can be identified inside the USDA mark of inspection with the establishment number “P-2375.”

The products come from three different companies:  Dutch Farms Chicken, Milford Valley Chicken and Aldi store brand Kirkwood.

The products were produced on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 with 28 salmonella cases reported between Feb. 21 and June 28.

FSIS has been working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health partners to investigate a multistate outbreak of 28 Salmonella Enteritidis illnesses in 8 states, with onset dates ranging from February 21 through June 28, 2021,” a statement from the department says.

Symptoms can show up 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food with the symptoms including diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. The illness can last from four to seven days.

The FSIS believes some consumers may still have these products in their homes.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the statement reads.
